FLOATING ISLAND – SÚRREALÍSKT

For the first time, Kristjana’s long-imagined creative concept of an island in the sky is realised in this study of the Surrealist art movement.  Levitating in the air, this fantastical island occupies its own universe, a place where the collective conscious and subconscious can escape, rest and recharge.  In this place of peace, the travails of humankind surrender themselves to the natural environment, and man-made structures become temples of nature and creativity.  The mirrored landscape has stretched and evolved as it has grown in the artist’s mind; a pair of Dali’s towering elephants defy the gravity that holds the island aloft, while between them, a mysterious portal invites the viewer to escape at any time.
